FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — A second person was arrested in connection with a homicide investigation that began when a man was found dead inside a tent encampment on Rolyat Street in May.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office announced on Tuesday that Christina Rose Miller, 46, is facing charges of accessory after the fact and tampering with evidence in the death of Carl Leonard Smith, 63. Miller was taken into custody without incident around 8:30 a.m. June 9 in Stuart by members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force, deputies said.
The case began May 25, when deputies responded to Rolyat Street, off Okeechobee Road, and found Smith dead inside a tent encampment. The Medical Examiner’s Office later ruled the death a homicide, according to SLCSO.
The investigation initially led to the arrest of Zachary Ryan Edwards, 30, who deputies previously identified as the primary suspect. Edwards was arrested on May 29 following an investigation that included witness interviews and surveillance footage review, according to previous reports.
