FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — A diver who went missing was found dead 55 feet underwater Friday, according to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office said the U.S. Coast Guard in Fort Pierce received a mayday call at 11:30 a.m. Friday reporting a missing diver. After the call, the Coast Guard notified the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which sent four boats to assist in search efforts.
FWC also contacted the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit, which had monitored the VHF mayday call and was already aware of the incident and en route to assist, the sheriff’s office said. Civilian boaters who were friends of the missing diver were notified of the emergency and left Fort Pierce Inlet around 1 p.m. to help with the search…
