Philly Down South brings City of Brotherly Love to Stuart

STUART, Fla. (CBS12) — You can feel the love as you walk into a large tiki hut on South Hutchinson Island in Martin County. That’s because Philly Down South is bringing the City of Brotherly Love to Stuart.

And, true to its name, Philly Down South is the winner of ARC Florida’s Dishin’ It Out for Best Cheesesteak.

Owner Jim Leary had his own restaurant in Philadelphia before relocating to South Florida. Then he started his own food trailer, which became quite popular. He got a call from the Elliott Museum on Hutchinson Island that said they wanted him to take over their upstairs cafe. While that was slow starting – Leary had a big idea. He decided to turn the parking lot into a tiki hut. Now it’s become the home of great music, incredible Philly fare, and the place to watch when there’s a big Eagles game…
