Martin Sheriff Plans Border Visit & State Of Emergency Declaration For Jail

Florida’s National Guard and State Guard soldiers are not the only ones heading to the Southern Border.

Martin County Sheriff William Snyder says he will be taking a trip there in a couple of weeks.

“It’s my belief that I’ll come away with a better understanding of what’s going on and maybe be able to direct resources here in a more focused approach.”

During a Thursday press conference, Snyder said he was invited by the sheriff of Cochise, Arizona. The announcement comes after the arrests this week of two men who had 370 fentanyl pills which he says came straight over the border.

He says they have a text message in which the seller of the drugs wrote “This is my Border price.”

Meanwhile, the sheriff says he is preparing to declare a state of emergency at the county jail because it is filled with undocumented inmates.

Snyder says taxpayers are not picking up the tab for his trip.
