Walk to End Alzheimer’s Treasure Coast Returns Next Month

Locals are invited to kick off the Walk to End Alzheimer’s Treasure Coast at a special event offering a glimpse into this year’s walk, information about the Alzheimer’s Association. and how to get involved, at the Kane Center in Stuart September 25.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s Treasure Coast will be held at Indian Riverside Park in Jensen Beach October 19. Registration begins at 8 a.m., followed by the flower ceremony, and the walk at 9:30 a.m.

Indian River County has an estimated 6,600 people (or 11.8 percent over the age of 65) living with Alzheimer’s; Martin County has an estimated 6,500 people (or 12.3 percent over the age of 65) living with Alzheimer’s; and St. Lucie County has an estimated 10,500 people (or 12.4 percent over the age of 65) living with Alzheimer’s.

On walk day, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer’s with the Promise Garden ceremony, a mission-focused experience that signifies solidarity in the fight against the disease. During the ceremony, walkers will carry flowers of various colors, each color representing their personal connection to the disease.
