Helene’s Winds Cause Tree To Fall On House, Nearly Killing Stuart Teen

The formerly named “Hurricane” Helene is blamed for nearly claiming the life of a 13-year old boy on the Treasure Coast.

“It was horrifying. I was sleeping in the living room and I was just laying down, sleeping. Next thing I know I get hit in the head with a piece of drywall.”

Maximiliano Velacquez’s mother tells CBS 12 she was shocked to make the discovery.

“I go to sleep, everything is good. In the morning I wake up and I’m like Oh my God!”

Neighbors rushed to help while fire rescue was on the way and they pulled the drywall off the boy. Remarkably, he only needed a Band-Aid.

“Very very lucky. I’m pretty sure if I wasn’t on the couch I would’ve gotten crushed.”

But the house is a total loss, according to Martin County Fire Rescue.

The Red Cross is assisting the family.
