Heavy Showers & Thunderstorms Developing Across Parts of Florida

Gusty Thunderstorms Moving Across Eastern Michigan

10/01/24 3:17pm ET

Good afternoon everyone. As expected, we are watching two areas of concern in regards to heavy showers and thunderstorms in regions unrelated to each other.

The first stop is Florida in which we spoke about this morning. Popcorn-like heavy showers and thunderstorms are popping up with the heating of the day, combined with high heat & humidity indices. Heavy thunderstorm action is scattered about in areas in between Fort Pierce and Melbourne, as well as the Tampa area on the west coast.

Here we have isolated strong to severe weather, with gusty winds in excess of 40mph, hail, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and the risk of an isolated waterspout. We expect this action to begin to wane after sunset, then become an issue again tomorrow.

Another area we spoke about this morning, Michigan, is having some frontal issues as a strong cold front has helped spark off a narrow line of gusty thunderstorms. This gust front will be capable of winds up to 50mph, torrential rain, and frequent lightning as it quickly moves through over the next few hours.
