Hundreds Apply for 20 Million In Restitution for The Horrors They Suffered At Florida Reform Schools

News Network: In a groundbreaking move, the state of Florida has formally apologized for the physical and sexual abuse suffered by hundreds of children at two state-run reform schools and is now offering restitution to victims. The deadline to apply for compensation was December 31st, and so far, at least 800 applications have been received by the state. Archaeological researchers from the University of South Florida have documented at least 55 burials on the Dozier campus, though the actual death toll may be higher. Many graves were unmarked, and records were poorly maintained or destroyed.
