Rep. Mast Champions Trooper Zachary Fink’s Legacy with Port St. Lucie Post Office Renaming Bill

In a move to honor the memory of a fallen law enforcement officer, U.S. Rep. Brian Mast, R-Fla., has reintroduced legislation to rename a Port St. Lucie post office. The Florida Highway Patrol trooper in question, Zachary Fink, died in the line of duty on February 2, 2024, after his cruiser collided with a semi-truck during a high-speed pursuit. This legislative effort coincides with Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, as reported by WPTV.

As stated by Rep. Mast, renaming the facility located at 290 Northwest Peacock Blvd. would ensure Trooper Fink’s “legacy for generations to come.” In a pursuit of suspect Michael Addison, Fink met his tragic end impacting a semi driven by Arsenio Mas, who also perished in the accident. Following the deadly crash the family of Mas, filing a wrongful death lawsuit claimed against the Florida Highway Patrol and Fink’s estate, as noted by WPTV.

According to legislation details available from WPBF, the proposed name for the post office would be “Trooper Zachary Fink Post Office Building.” The prior version of this bill, H.R. 8408, had been introduced to the U.S. House of Representatives last May. Mast, representing parts of Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast, persistently seeks to honor the 26-year-old trooper who “dedicated his life to making our community a safer place.”…
