Man struck by Brightline train south of Vero Beach Sunday remains in critical condition

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A man remains hospitalized in critical condition after being struck Sunday by a Brightline passenger train, a law enforcement official said Tuesday. The 30-year-old man sustained what were described as severe injuries from the train’s impact while on an area of tracks near the 8th Street crossing south of Vero Beach around 6 p.m. The southbound train was traveling between 80-90 mph and was occupied, but the number of passengers was unavailable Tuesday, said Indian River County Sheriff’s Office Lt.
