Martin County crash leads to arrests, ICE detainers for Miami drivers without licenses

MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A driver involved in a crash found himself in deeper trouble after fleeing the scene.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) said 34-year-old Enrique De Jesus Cante-Gomez, of Miami, was driving a van with two passengers when it was rear-ended by another vehicle. However, instead of waiting for deputies to investigate, Cante-Gomez and one passenger fled in the van, while the other passenger left in a separate car traveling with them.

Deputies said they later located Cante-Gomez driving the damaged van southbound. Authorities discovered he had never held a valid Florida driver’s license. The separate car, still following the van, was also found. Inside were the third passenger and another driver, 28-year-old Victor Alexander Perez-Ruiz, also of Miami, who also did not have a valid driver’s license…
