FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — A 204-acre transformation is underway in Fort Pierce, bringing something you won’t find anywhere else in Florida: a world-class, man-made surf park.
Developers have reportedly already broken ground on Koa Bay, a roughly $595 million master-planned surf community located at 10050 W. Midway Rd., just north of Glades Cut Off Road, west of I-95. However, progress is difficult to assess from the outside due to the dense tree coverage in the area.
The site, which currently has cattle roaming, will soon be home to a mix of shops, hotels, restaurants, and 1,100 new homes—all centered around Wavegarden Cove, a cutting-edge surf lagoon capable of producing 450 waves per hour.
