GALLERY: Lightning strike ignites brush fire in Port St. Lucie

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — A brush fire sparked by a lightning strike erupted in Port St. Lucie on Monday evening.

The St. Lucie County Fire District (SLCFD) said firefighters responded near 1500 SE Crowberry Drive to reports of a brush fire caused by a lightning strike.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find the blaze burning just 50 feet from nearby homes. Photos taken at the scene show the scorched brush.

Despite challenging access to the location, SLCFD said Florida Forestry crews responded with a plow, and the fire was brought under control by 6:01 p.m…
