Florida Storm Alert: Strong Thunderstorms and 55 MPH Gusts in Martin County Until 2 PM Today

Fort Pierce, FL – Strong thunderstorms are moving across the southern Treasure Coast this morning, bringing the greatest threat to Martin County and surrounding areas through 2 p.m. Sunday. Residents should brace for wind gusts up to 55 mph, brief downpours, and the chance of small hail.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, there’s a 15% chance that some gusts could exceed 60 mph in parts of Martin, St. Lucie, and Okeechobee counties. Frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall of 1–2 inches are possible, with very low—but not zero—tornado potential.

Fort Pierce, Vero Beach, and Stuart are all under a Level 1 severe weather risk. Minor flooding is possible in low-lying and urban areas, especially near the coast. Rain coverage is highest (50–80%) south of Melbourne, particularly near Lake Okeechobee.
