JENSEN BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — The strip along Indian River Drive in Jensen Beach looks forgotten with abandoned buildings, overgrown grass, and graffiti, but this 5 1/2 acre spot could soon be getting a major makeover.
“I think any way that you take a blighted area and you make it better and make an improvement and you don’t overbuild,” Jensen Beach Chamber of Commerce, President and CEO Ron Rose said.
That’s what a developer out of Fort Myers wants to do by building Riverlight, a mixed-use project with nearly 80 residential units, a small hotel, restaurant, and retail space. But some neighbors have raised concerns from traffic and parking to the to the possibility that Jensen Beach could lose some of its small-town charm…
