A teen who was swept out to sea while boogie-boarding in Florida over the weekend was safely rescued, a welcome happy ending in the area after two tragic drownings in two days, authorities said.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said its Marine Unit, Aviation Unit, Ground Units, “and every available asset” were deployed for “an all-out search” after a 15-year-old boy “vanished” while on a boogie board off the beach off Beach Road on Sunday. The search was joined by Martin County Fire Rescue, Jupiter Island Public Safety, the U.S. Coast Guard, Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, and “numerous” good Samaritan boaters who responded to assist.
The sheriff’s office said the teen was located nearly a mile from where he disappeared “after an intense and fast-moving search.” The boy was spotted by a private captain with TowBoat USA, who brought him to a U.S. Coast Guard vessel.
