WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Since launching in 2017, Brightline has averaged nearly two fatalities per month, earning the title of the deadliest passenger rail line in the U.S. A Vero Beach watchdog group long opposed to Brightline’s expansion says the mounting number of fatalities comes as no surprise.
Reports of collisions are widespread, with eyewitness videos documenting pedestrians, cars, and even a city fire truck crossing into the path of Brightline trains.
According to Federal Railroad Administration data, Brightline trains have been involved in 149 fatalities and 278 collisions with vehicles or pedestrians since it began service more than seven years ago…
