“Camp Hibiscus”: Special Memories & Summer Fun for Kids

For most children, summer means long days filled with laughter, adventure, and cherished family moments. But for children who have experienced trauma in their young lives, summer has often been just another reminder of what they’ve lost. Thanks to the generosity of our community and the unwavering dedication of the Hibiscus Children’s Center staff and volunteers, that’s changing.

Through “Camp Hibiscus,” a ten-week summer program designed specifically for the children at Tilton Family Children’s Shelter, these young survivors are now able to experience the joy, freedom, and healing that summer can offer. Camp Hibiscus provides a full schedule of recreational and educational outings, field trips, hands-on learning, and opportunities to simply be kids.

Summer camp isn’t just a fun distraction, it’s a lifeline. For children who’ve endured trauma, the structure and enrichment of Camp Hibiscus helps rebuild trust, develop social skills, and foster a renewed sense of safety and belonging. Camp activities include visiting the park, the beach, picnics, Lion Country Safari and SeaWorld, arts and crafts, and learning about nature, to name a few.
