Drunken Detour: Homestead Man Lands Truck in Pond Behind Sheriff’s Substation
A Fourth of July traffic enforcement initiative in Florida kicked off with an unexpected splash Thursday afternoon. A Homestead man, allegedly driving under the influence, sent his truck careening into a retention pond—a pond conveniently located directly behind the Martin County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division substation.
Corey Howard, 34, of Homestead, was identified as the driver.
He reportedly lost control of his vehicle, causing it to literally “make waves” in the nearby pond. According to deputies, Howard’s “judgment was as bad as his luck” when he found himself in the very retention pond that serves as the immediate backyard to the facility dedicated to traffic enforcement…
