PALM CITY— Year after year, a quiet but powerful mission gallops forward: rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome neglected and abandoned horses. For 25 years, the Equine Rescue and Adoption Foundation (ERAF) has been doing just that—and now, during Florida’s hottest and hardest months, they’re asking the community for help.
Founded in 2000, ERAF has rescued more than 500 horses and placed over 480 into new homes. Operating as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with no government funding, the organization relies heavily on donors, grants, and an army of volunteers who show up rain or shine—especially in the summer when the need is greatest.
Executive Director Melissa Muller, who began as a volunteer nearly a decade ago, describes the work as life-changing. “Before ERAF, I was in the hospitality industry. But after volunteering with my son, I realized this was my passion. It’s hard to have a bad day around horses,” she said. “The joy they bring—and the peace they give—is unmatched.”…
