FORT PIERCE – Striving to meet a deadline for notifying the St. Lucie County property appraiser of ad valorem rates in time to mail out Truth in Millage statements this year, County Commissioners voted unanimously July 22 to keep the tentative 2026 rates flat while eyeing a potential reduction during its September public hearings.
Before Management & Budget Office Director Jennifer Hill could begin her presentation that evening, District 5 Commissioner Cathy Townsend jumpstarted the discussion by introducing Ed Fry, a former St. Lucie Clerk of the Court and certified public accountant.
“There’s been conversations for a couple of months, and I think you’re all going to be pleased with what was discovered,” she said. “I’d like for him to explain to you how there’s a path forward to approve our budget and lower the millage rate.”…
