FPUA request reveals plant relocation progressUtility, city approvals of $28m grant assignment facilitate efforts

FORT PIERCE – The Fort Pierce Utilities Authority (FPUA) and City Commission have formally approved the transfer of $28 million in Resilient Florida grant funding to help redirect wastewater from South Hutchinson Island to a new $139.5 million mainland treatment facility nearing completion.

FPUA officials had learned 18 months ago that the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) deemed the relocation project eligible for the funds. But formal sign-offs from the City Commission, FPUA Board, and FDEP were required to assign fund management to the Utility.

At the FPUA Board’s July 15 meeting, Director of Public Affairs and Sustainability Rachel Tennant presented the grant assignment request and used the opportunity to provide an update on the project’s progress…
