Mother joins man in jail after baby found with multiple fractures in St. Lucie County

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — A woman is the second arrest in the disturbing case of a three-month-old baby found with multiple fractures earlier this year.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office (SLCSO) said the case began on March 29, when medical staff at HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital alerted authorities after discovering both fresh and healing fractures on the infant — including a recent arm fracture and older breaks in the ribs and leg. Due to the severity of the injuries, the child was transferred to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach for specialized care and is now in a safe environment.

The sheriff’s office said on July 29, 27-year-old Danielle Auro — the baby’s mother — was arrested for child neglect. She was booked into the St. Lucie County Jail, following continued investigative efforts by detectives.

This follows the July 18 arrest of 33-year-old James Longendyck, who was charged with aggravated child abuse causing great bodily harm. Longendyck was taken into custody by St. Lucie County detectives in collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and is being held on a $50,000 bond.
