Convicted felon stole police SUV with tactical rifle after vehicle break-ins: Jupiter PD

JUPITER, Fla. (CBS12) — A convicted felon on inmate release allegedly turned a quiet Jupiter neighborhood into a crime scene Sunday, breaking into cars, stealing a police SUV loaded with a tactical rifle, and leading officers on a foot chase.

The Jupiter Police Department (JPD) said Louis Charles McKenzie, 23, a convicted felon currently on inmate release status, faces a litany of felony counts after officers say he was caught on surveillance and drone footage entering multiple vehicles in a residential neighborhood. The incident unfolded after a resident on Dolphin Drive reported seeing a man attempting to open car doors via her Ring camera.

According to the probable cause affidavit, responding officers deployed foot patrols, vehicles, and a drone to canvass the area. The JPD drone identified a recently operated vehicle with a heat signature and soon spotted a man — later identified as McKenzie — entering vehicles at a nearby residence…
