FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — A reckless drive through a residential neighborhood turned into a dramatic arrest Tuesday morning after detectives intercepted a stolen vehicle and took two suspects into custody.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office (SLCSO) said at around 11 a.m. on August 19, Special Investigations Division (SID) detectives spotted a blue Nissan Sentra speeding westbound on Juanita Avenue. The vehicle’s erratic behavior raised immediate concern, prompting detectives to initiate a traffic stop after it turned south onto North 53rd Street.
The sheriff’s office said the car eventually slowed down to the point where both the driver and passenger briefly opened their doors — appearing ready to flee — before slamming them shut and accelerating away, ignoring law enforcement commands.
The chase continued at high speed until the driver attempted a sharp left turn from Tropic Boulevard onto Academy Drive, according to the news release.
