Parents say they were left in the dark after 12-year-old’s arrest at St. Lucie West K-8

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — After a 12-year-old student at St. Lucie West K-8 School was arrested for sending violent threats on Instagram, some parents say they were left in the dark.

Mary Abt, who has a seventh grader at the school, told CBS12 News she never received the school’s automated alert. Instead, she first read about the arrest on social media.

“I wasn’t reached out to at all. When I read about it, I was quite upset,” Abt said.

Abt said when she asked the school why she didn’t get a message, she was told it could have been blocked by her phone’s spam settings…
