The design reflects key takeaways from the engagement process:
- Markets and events are the cornerstone of Marina Square
- Strong desire for a flexible, multigenerational park
- Infrastructure should support active use, not just form
- The park should strengthen its natural and educational identity
- Parking remains a critical need
The intent of the design is to activate the waterfront and Indian River Drive, create flexible spaces that connect people to the marina, and strengthen ties between Downtown businesses and the riverfront.
As part of this vision, a new Marina Square logo was created through an online survey. The design highlights defining elements of the area: water, mangroves, sunrise, and wildlife.
The conceptual design imagines Fort Pierce’s waterfront as the city’s commons:
- Open lawns for picnics and play
- A plaza alive with weekend markets and music
- Shady groves for quiet reflection
- A playground, splash pad, dog park, swing set, and expanded marina docks
- A riverfront promenade linking the heartbeat of Downtown to the beauty of the Indian River
The FPRA worked closely with the Saturday markets to ensure the design benefits vendors and accommodates over 200 booths, bringing even more activity and opportunity to Downtown Fort Pierce. This new design reflects what the community asked for: a safer, more welcoming, and vibrant Fort Pierce that still maintains the charm everyone loves. Markets and events will remain at the heart of Marina Square, while also strengthening support for downtown businesses and restaurants…
