VERO BEACH – The Indian River County Commission unanimously approved a special exception use and site plan Sept. 23 so an existing recovery clinic operator can convert an assisted living facility on Old Dixie Highway to a detox short-term residential facility.
The operators of Vero Beach Recovery Center plan to convert the 28-bed Integrity Dixie Oak Manor at 6410 Old Dixie Highway into the Treasure Coast Detox facility, the first such clinic in the county. Chief Planner Brandon Creagan presented their request commissioners that morning.
“Before you today is the Treasure Coast Detox special exception use,” he said. “The property is located between U.S. Highway 1 and Old Dixie Highway directly north of 65th Street. The property is zoned limited commercial. There’s an existing building, parking and stormwater pond, and to the north, east and south is mostly wooded areas. This is currently a 29-bed adult congregate living facility, but the applicant proposes a detox facility. The only changes to the site are four parking spaces required to satisfy the special exception criteria for this change of use and a minor change to the stormwater pond.”…
