PSL finalizes 2025/2026 millage and budget

PORT ST. LUCIE — The City Council voted unanimously Sept. 22 to finalize the 2025/2026 millage and budget after Management & Budget Office Director Caroline Sturgis acknowledged the recent recovery of $5.9 million due to a major change made by the Florida Department of Transportation that released those funds for future capital improvement projects.

Sturgis told Council members during the second and final budget hearing that the budget book had changed slightly since her Sept. 8 presentation.

“Tonight, I’m before you to quickly go through the items that we’re requesting be adopted,” she said. “Prior to reading the statutory requirements, I do want to note one revision to the funding for Port St. Lucie Boulevard Segment 2.2. On a prior slide, the total here was $6.2 million. After discussions with FDOT over the summer, we are revising that budget to $300,000. Therefore, the balance of $5.9 million, which has been in our restricted capital reserves, will continue to remain a set-aside to fund any future overages for any capital projects.”…
