St. Lucie County, Florida, manages over 11,000 acres of protected land. This fall, the county’s Environmental Resources Department will offer a series of guided nature programs for residents and visitors. The programs are intended to provide educational and recreational experiences at various preserves in the county.
The series begins with the ‘Bring Your Brew Birding Hike’ at Donald B. Moore Preserve on October 4. Participants can bring coffee and learn about Florida’s bird species. The hike ends at an observation tower with views of the lagoon and ocean.
In November, several hikes and activities are scheduled. On November 1, the ‘Lichens in the Scrub Hike’ at Spruce Bluff Preserve will focus on the relationships in Florida’s rosemary scrub habitats.
