From October 20 to 26, 2025, Port St. Lucie participated in Florida City Week. The event was sponsored by the Florida League of Cities. Its goal was to inform students about the functions of local government. Staff from more than 10 city departments took part. They reached over 500 students from two charter schools and three St. Lucie Public Schools. The schools included Village Green Environmental Studies School, Tradition Preparatory High School, Windmill Point Elementary School, Somerset College Preparatory Academy, and Port St. Lucie High School.
City staff led assemblies and discussions during the week. They explained how services such as budgeting, planning, and public works operate. Stephanie Vernot, Community Engagement Manager, said it is important to make government understandable for students. She noted that students learn more when they see how city services affect their daily lives.
Students learned about civic participation and the duties of the City Council. Ella Harris, president of the Tradition Preparatory High School Student Government Association, said the program helped students understand local government.
