Miami Man Charged in Port St. Lucie Auto Burglaries After High-Tech Drone-Assisted Arrest

In the pre-dawn quiet of a Port St. Lucie neighborhood, technology met traditional policing when a Miami man was arrested on suspicions of multiple auto burglaries. CBS12 reported that Germaine Mitchell, a 22-year-old Miami resident, was apprehended today, following a high-tech pursuit involving a drone operated by the SWAT team of Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD).

The chase down began when a neighbor’s call around 4 a.m. alerted the police to a man lurking near his home on SW Deer Run. Leveraging home security footage, officers were able to identify the suspect, which, as detailed by CBS12, led to a drone deployment that located Mitchell in another resident’s backyard.

The drone in question, the Skydio X10, was instrumental in guiding officers on the ground to the suspect’s location, resulting in his capture. Hometown News TC added that upon his arrest, police discovered a wallet belonging to another local resident, the contents including cash, a driver’s license and debit cards.
