Florida Man Opens Fire Outside Bar After Argument About How Many Eggs Chickens Can Lay, Police Say

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — A 44-year-old Florida man was arrested after allegedly firing shots at several people outside a bar following a heated argument about how many eggs a chicken can lay, police said.

According to the Port St. Lucie Police Department, the incident happened Tuesday night outside Harper’s Pub when Peter Riera, who described himself as a farmer, got into an unusual debate with three other patrons about chickens and egg production.

Witnesses told investigators that after several minutes of shouting, Riera left the bar and returned with a firearm, firing multiple shots in the direction of the people he’d been arguing with.

Thankfully, no one was injured, but officers say several rounds were discharged in the parking lot before Riera fled the scene.

Police later tracked Riera down and took him into custody. He now faces a list of charges including:

  • Three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon
  • Two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
  • Four counts of discharging a firearm in public
  • One count of use of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol
