St. Lucie County, Florida, will offer a series of guided nature programs in December. The county’s Environmental Resources Department manages over 11,000 acres of protected land and organizes outdoor activities to help people learn about local wildlife and habitats. The events begin on Thursday, December 4, with a National Wildlife Conservation Day Hike at George LeStrange Preserve from 9 to 11 a.m. This hike focuses on wildlife conservation and the Endangered Species Act. On Saturday, December 6, two events are scheduled: the Annual Christmas Bird Count Walk at Jones Hammock Preserve from 8 to 11 a.m., which covers bird counting methods, and a Beginners Kayak Class at Petravice Family Preserve from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. The kayak class has a $20 fee and teaches basic paddling and safety.
On Wednesday, December 10, the Experience Pinelands hike at Pinelands Preserve allows participants to visit a 750-acre site that is only accessible through this program.
