Quarterly Test of St. Lucie Nuclear Plant Sirens Scheduled for December 4: What Local Residents Need to Know

On Thursday, December 4, St. Lucie County Public Safety Department, Martin County Emergency Management Agency, and Florida Power & Light Company will test the outdoor warning sirens for the St. Lucie nuclear power plant. The quarterly test will begin at noon and will activate all 91 sirens in the plant’s 10-mile emergency planning zone for one minute.

A public-address message will state before and after the test that it is a drill. These tests check that the siren system works properly. In an actual emergency, the sirens would sound for at least five minutes. Local media would provide further instructions.
