Nopetro Energy launched a landfill gas (LFG) to renewable natural gas (RNG) production facility in Indian River County, Florida. The facility captures methane gas from the local landfill, purifies it, and injects the RNG into Florida City Gas’s pipeline infrastructure. Nopetro said this project supports cleaner air and fuel independence for the surrounding community.
Facility Specifications and Impact
The new site purifies biogas to more than 95% methane, exceeding the typical 90% standard. The resulting RNG supplies local vehicles, homes, and businesses, Nopetro said. Additionally, the company noted that construction and ongoing operations created new jobs for regional contractors and service providers.
Nopetro Energy CEO Jorge Herrera said, “Opening this facility is a major step, not just for Nopetro’s growing natural gas production and distribution network, but for Indian River County.”
Joseph Flescher, Indian River County Commission chairman, added, “This partnership highlights the value of working with the private sector to bring innovation and investment to Indian River County.”
Partnerships and Expansion
