VERO BEACH – When a restaurant has exceptionally crafted beer, and fresh, innovative food in a very cool and historical building, that appears to be the trifecta of a winning combination. Such is the case at American Icon Brewery.
The story of this local landmark is one of Vero Beach’s best restoration projects in the downtown area. According to the business website: The building was once the Vero Beach Diesel Power Plant (also known as the City of Vero Beach Municipal Power Plant). The power plant was built in 1926. Almost 40 years after ceasing daily operations, the building was vacated in 1995.
The story goes on to say that in June 2016, the Diesel Plant was sold to real estate developer Michael R. Rechter. Following a $6 million renovation, the building and property were adapted and re-utilized as a best-in-class brewpub/production brewery which opened October 2017.
