Roughly 9,500 truck drivers sidelined as DOT ramps up English-language enforcement

FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) says roughly 9,500 commercial truck drivers have been placed out of service this year for failing to meet federal English-language proficiency requirements, as the agency ramps up enforcement of a rule that has been on the books for decades.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy first announced the figure on Wednesday in a post on X, framing the crackdown as a highway-safety measure.
