PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (WFLA) — A Port St. Lucie Police sergeant left the hospital on Friday after recovering from a gunshot wound sustained on duty in early December.
On Dec. 1, Sgt. Erik LeVasseur was investigating a disturbance in the 11000 block of SW Lake Park Drive in Port St. Lucie.
According to police, during the investigation, LeVasseur, along with several officers, encountered a man with an assault rifle. A shootout ensued during which LaVassuer and the suspect were both shot.
