MARTIN COUNTY, Florida — A 26-year-old Venezuelan immigrant is in custody following a violent, unprovoked attack on a woman at a Martin County beach.
The incident occurred around 11:00 PM on Thursday night into early Friday morning at Tiger Shore Beach. The victim was walking and talking on the phone with a relative when the attacker approached from behind, struck her, pushed her into the water, and attempted to drown her, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. The victim reported losing consciousness during the struggle.
Believing the victim was dead, the suspect discarded her cell phone into the ocean before leaving the scene. Upon regaining consciousness, the victim walked over a mile to Stuart Beach, where she found a sheriff’s deputy…
