Jailyn Williams soaring for the Eagles, named CBS12 News Athlete of the Week

PORT ST. LUCIE (CBS12 News) — The St. Lucie West Centennial High School Eagles are soaring at just the right time — and so is their senior leader. Jailyn Williams is hitting her stride as the postseason heats up, guiding Centennial into regionals as the top-ranked team and earning CBS12 News Athlete of the Week honors.

The 6-foot-1 senior has become the steady force behind the Eagles’ success. Confident, composed, and relentless on defense, Williams is peaking exactly when her team needs her most. In a dominant playoff win over the Tohopekaliga High School Tigers, she delivered 12 points, 10 rebounds, and six steals — stuffing the stat sheet and helping punch Centennial’s ticket to the regional semifinal against Jupiter High School.

Her journey hasn’t happened overnight. Williams admits when she first walked into the Centennial gym as a freshman, she wasn’t the player she is today.
