Cat found hiding on spare tire under Florida deputy’s patrol car

MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A cat that darted into traffic and was hit by a car was found hiding on a spare tire under a Florida deputy’s patrol car on Wednesday.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said Animal Control Officer Shannon McGee, Community Service Aide Robin Hurley, and Uniform Road Patrol Sergeant Crystal Nash went “above and beyond” to save the cat.

After the cat was hit by a car, it darted off and climbed into the spare tire compartment, wedging itself tightly on top of the spare tire in an attempt to hide, deputies said.

“What started as a traffic hazard quickly turned into a delicate rescue operation in the middle of a busy roadway. Despite the roadside chaos, these ladies went in for the rescue,” the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook.

After the SUV was moved off the road, McGee and Hurley crawled underneath the SUV to work to free the injured cat…
