ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A semi-truck fire shut down a stretch of the Florida Turnpike in St. Lucie County Saturday morning, causing heavy smoke and traffic delays.
Just after 6 a.m., St. Lucie County Fire District crews say they responded to a report of a semi-truck fire in the southbound lanes at Mile Marker 174.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a semi hauling plastic containers approximately 50% involved in flames. Crews immediately initiated an aggressive attack on the fire. After knocking down the bulk of the flames, they used equipment and saws to open the side of the trailer, ensuring all remaining materials were fully extinguished…
