PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — A garbage truck fire erupted in Port St. Lucie on Wednesday, prompting a firefighting response after the driver’s desperate attempt to contain the blaze was thwarted by a malfunctioning rear gate.
The St. Lucie County Fire District said that crews responded to the garbage truck fire on Wednesday near the intersection of Selvitz Road and St. James Drive in Port St. Lucie.
It was reported that upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the garbage truck’s load was on fire.
