Missing 5-year-old boy with autism found dead in Port St. Lucie; drowning ruled accidental

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — A 5-year-old special needs child who went missing Monday evening was found dead after an hours-long search.

The Port St. Lucie Police Department said that officers were called to a home on SW Crean Terrace, off SW Hampshire Lane, at around 8 p.m. on March 9 after family members reported that 5-year-old Zam Tuang, who was autistic, went missing.

Loved ones told dispatchers they had searched the home and the surrounding area before calling 911, but were unable to locate him.

When officers arrived, they confirmed Zam was not inside the residence. During the search, investigators reviewed surveillance video and discovered that the child opened the garage door and walked away from the home around 7:15 p.m., heading east and out of camera view.
