Police K-9 heroically tracks down missing autistic child in Florida

A missing child with autism in Florida was rescued safely after an hourlong search thanks to the efforts of K-9 Hoot.

Hoot, a K-9 bloodhound with the Port St. Lucie Police Department, was called in March 2 after a missing 13-year-old autistic child was spotted on surveillance video in Fort Pierce, about 30 minutes north of Port St. Lucie, police said in a post on Facebook.

“K9 Officer Burdick and Hoot the bloodhound tracked the teenager to a woods alongside a railroad track,” authorities said, adding a Fort Pierce Police Department drone unit was then β€œable to illuminate the missing child,” rescue him and eventually reunite him with his family.

Body-cam footage shows Hoot using his sniffing abilities to track down the child and alert human officers of his location. Police said Hoot tracked officers “straight to the missing 13-year-old.”…
