FORT PIERCE – City leaders Monday indicated they’re willing to give Crabby’s current leaseholder 60 days to find another restaurant operator to sublet the downtown site or face being sued for unpaid rent and expenses.
Officials said an official title search found no liens have been attached to the city-owned, waterfront land title, including no mortgages for the $4 million that tenant Winking Starfish LLC said it invested in putting a building on the site.
City Attorney Sara Hedges said lease terms will convey ownership of that building to the city if the tenant ultimately decides to walk away from its lease obligations, including more than $200,000 in unpaid rent and property taxes…
