Early Sunday morning, St. Lucie County Fire District crews responded to a house fire in Port St. Lucie around 1:50 a.m. after reports of smoke and someone calling for help inside. Firefighters found the home locked and filled with smoke, forcing entry to reach the trapped occupant. The person was rescued and taken to a local trauma center. Crews also saved five dogs, though sadly one did not survive. The fire was under control by 2:21 a.m.
