Easter for Calvary Chapel Vero Beach draws thousands at Riverside

VERO BEACH — Calvary Chapel Vero Beach marked Holy Week with a series of outdoor gatherings at Riverside Park, beginning on Holy Thursday and culminating on Easter Sunday.

Pastor Nate Gallagher, the son of Senior Pastor Jim Gallagher, said the church’s Holy Thursday observance centered on worship, reflection and prayer, drawing from Jesus’ prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. The evening was designed to prepare hearts for the days ahead and to pray specifically for Good Friday and Easter services. Gallagher said those who attended the prayer gathering often noticed “behind-the-scenes” answers, such as favorable weather and meaningful responses from attendees, strengthening faith as the weekend unfolded.

Good Friday featured two distinct elements. From 4 to 6 or 6:30 p.m., the church hosted a family-style picnic in the park. Gallagher described it as communal and celebratory, giving families time together outdoors. At 7 p.m., the tone shifted to a more solemn communion service focused on the cross.
