Portland Airbnb guest paid her bill, then was sent to collections

PORTLAND, Ore. — When Pauline needed a place to stay in Portland for about a month on a work trip, she turned to Airbnb. After scrolling through listings, she found a Pearl District apartment listed by a company called Landing. She booked the stay, paid her bill, and moved on — or so she thought.

Four months later, a collections agency called claiming she owed $143 for an unpaid utility bill at the Pearl Studios property where she had stayed.

“That’s not possible,” she told them. “I’ve never had a utility bill in Portland.” Pauline asked KGW to not use her last name…
